The intent of the project is to establish a 2,500 linear foot side-channel within the floodplain of the Methow River to improve habitat conditions for spawning and juvenile salmon. Pipkin crews excavated and hauled-off more than 32,000 CY of earth to construct the channel. Approximately 350 logs and 120 timber piles were installed to provide further enhanced fish habitat in the channel. The channel was isolated from the Methow River by means of cofferdam for the project duration.

In order to provide flow for this channel, a gravity fed groundwater collection gallery and conveyance piping was installed to divert water from a nearby wetland. In all, 780 LF of 30″ HDPE, 420 LF of 24″ HDPE, 160 LF of 18″ HDPE, and 480 LF of 16″ slotted PVC pipe were installed. Since a majority of this pipe was located under the water table, a significant amount of dewatering was required for installation.
